The paintings and drawings in the 1980
Terra Firma series were the
first group of
abstract paintings I made
following the automatisict drawings of the late 1970's. But they are not pure abstraction, rather a study of surrealist
morphology along the lines of Roberto Matta and Jean Dubuffet, although I was not directly influneced by them at
the time of creating this series.
