 Abstract Figurations 1993-2001
The works in Figurations, are rooted in the practices of abstract expressionism and automaticist Surrealism. Pictographic elements create a frieze suggesting a variety of anthropormorphic shapes. which are based in nature. Many of these paintings were begun outside of the studio. These works were the precursors to the Cloisonnist Series of 1994-1998, which involved similar shape making,. However, in the Cloissonnist Series the shapes, although created spontaneously with gestural brushworrk, are later given more precise definition.
