These works grew directly out of a 1967 series of pen and ink drawings,  published in 1980 as a book, Earth and Sky Changes.
        They combined earthy, mandala
forms together with hard edge, pop icons, set amid west coast mountains.

        These works capture a formative
period, when Simpson was incorporating the influences of Vancouver artists Gary Lee Nova,
        Jack Wise,
Joy Long and Claude Breeze.
